The Group Facilitators
The group is run by its members and as members ourselves all we are aiming to do is facilitate decisions about what the group want to achieve and help make these ideas a reality.
The reason it has worked has been for the flexibilty we have allowed to naturally occur. Members come and go getting support in the way that they need. What people need from the group changes with time and with who attends. We adapt to this.
- We have a wide list of social activities as well as our weekly meetings.
- We have been on holiday together something some of us never thought
- We have delivered training together to raise awareness about mental health.
- We support each other through the hard times and accept each other for who
we are.
- We have conducted research together
- We have written a book together.
- We have worked together to form a group that for the last 15 years has worked well.
The reason it has worked has been for the flexibilty we have allowed to naturally occur. Members come and go getting support in the way that they need. What people need from the group changes with time and with who attends. We adapt to this.
"As one of the co chairs I feel I have recieved
more support from the group than I have given.
An argument many of the group
challenge but one I stick to.
You can't buy or train someone to understand
no matter how much they want to.
You have to have been there to truly
understand the depth of despair or
the hard fight it takes to live each day.
In the group I am accepted for
whatever kind of day I am having.
This is priceless"
